Lectors are trained and appointed to effectively proclaim the Scriptures at public worship. Through a lector’s proclamation, God’s Word comes alive and motivates the community to live and to spread the Gospel. Thus, a person should have a good speaking voice; and a willingness to take time to study, to understand, and to practice the Scripture reading. Lectors are usually scheduled once a month to proclaim at a Mass. Additional lector opportunities occur during Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. Individual training and lector workshops are offered.
Requirements: a member of St. Mary Parish of at least high school age who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and be able to read clearly with expression and meaning.
Lectors are encouraged to attend a faith formation activity once a year, and when available, attend a lector workshop every two years.
